The clay Capasoni are typical of the Puglia region of Italy (the “heel” of the country). These jars date back to the 19th century and come from Ostuni. The word Capasoni is derived from the word meaning “capable” and they varied greatly in size from 10” up to 59”. Some reached 2m (79”) and could contain 250liters of wine. The ones we have for sale range from 43” to 52” They were used to store and age the wine, and in rarer occasions would also be used for olive oil.
